New Homes And Pedestrian Routes For Hackney Wick

200 new homes are set to be built near Hackney Wick station, the Hackney Gazette reports. New cycle and pedestrian routes will also be created to improve links between Hackney and Tower Hamlets.

The three sites which are set for development are owned by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC). It was formed in April 2012 to promote the Olympic Park and the surrounding areas, and maximise the social, environmental and economic impact from the investment.

In partnership with Hackney Council, the LLDC has formed the Hackney Wick central masterplan, which will eventually deliver 1,500 new homes and 75,000mof arts and business space. It also plans to improve the public spaces of what is already one of the most vibrant areas of London.

Rosanna Lawes, executive director of development at the London Legacy Development Corporation, said: “This is a major step forward to deliver the next phase of the Hackney Wick Masterplan. She added that the masterplan’s design “enhances existing conservations areas” and assets that reflect the areas strong creative and manufacturing history.

Planning permission for the current phase of the development was granted in March 2019, and is now set to go ahead. Over 190 new homes will be built, 50% of which will be affordable housing. There will also be flexible new commercial, retail, and community facilities.

A public space will be created at the entrance of Hackney Wick station. Developer James Macpherson commented: “”It will transform the area around Hackney Wick Station and include high-quality public realm and low-cost workspace and studios to help celebrate the huge creativity in this part of London.”

In the future phases of development, this will be connected to a north-south pedestrian and cycle route from Central Brooks on Wallis Road, through the overground station and down to Rothbury Road and White Post Lane.
